I’ll have more public speaking tips on Friday for you - today is a special note for every American…
****
I just returned from voting this morning and I have to tell you I’m excited again for our Republic. Young and old, rich and poor - people were standing on line for about 90 minutes for their right to express their opinion on the US elections.
And I am relieved by the sight of it. You see, my ancestors fought, bled and died to give me the right to express my opinion. I’m betting yours did too. And so it’s your duty; your payment to them, to get out and vote today.
My only complaint is that the election process takes far too long. The first primary was in January 2008 and the formal campaigning started almost 2 years ago. And that’s too long.
I’ll admit that there were too many ugly accusations made. Too many unsubstantiated arguments presented. The attacks a bit too personal. That’s a sad commentary on our society. The fact is, we’re better than that…
And yes, elections lead to change. Some will not like the changes that come of an election like this one, yet most will agree that some changes need to be made.
But as an American, my prayer is that we will all stand on that common ground (as Americans), put our country first, and give whomever wins a fair shot to lead us into the future.
I’ll also say that whether you are a supporter of Senator Obama or not, Dr. Martin Luther King would have been delighted to see this day come. Most don’t realize that Dr. King was a REPUBLICAN, and its debatable whether or not he would have voted for a man simply because of his race, but after today, race can no longer be a factor in US elections.
In that regard alone a victory has been won - regardless of the outcome.
And if you have an opinion on the election and did not take time to register or to vote - shame on you! It is the least that you can do…so get up out of your chair, go to the polls, wait your turn and VOTE!!
