A Public Speaking Class Requires Work, Right?
When someone chooses to take a public speaking class or getting public speaking coaching, what should some of the factors in your decision be? When you search the available options, there are many types of classes to choose from.
Should the public speaking class last for months or should it be shorter? Should you have to attend in person or can the public speaking classes be done on a self-study basis or done on the Internet?
Should the public speaking class and the public speaking coaching, REQUIRE (dare I say it) WORK and ACCOUNTABILITY?
Public Speaking Class – Information or Transformation?
Let’s face it, we live in the information age. And as a result of some very popular seminars there are more “information marketers” than ever before. The requirements to call oneself a “guru” are few. The old expression “those who can, do and those who can’t, teach” is more applicable than ever.
As it is in many niches, in the arena of public speaking classes, information products are plentiful. But how many of those classes or programs require the speaker to work? What percentage of them hold the student accountable or work with them to implement the material? I’ve found very, very few. Even my free e-course provides a basic level of accountability and access to me.
Can Public Speaking Coaching Transform Your Business?
In my opinion, no. But if the coach or instructor requires you to put forth an effort, checks your work and ensures that the lesson plans are implemented into your speaking business, transformation does occur and on a fairly regular basis.
Without implementation, there is little reason to think that the speaker will see much change in their business. Information products often don’t even get opened, not to mention ever being fully explored, learned or utilized.
So, in my opinion, if you are considering taking a public speaking class and you have to choose between information and transformation, take the narrow gate, choose the harder road, accept to be accountable to the coaching program and let your speaking business be transformed.
But that is my opinion – I’m very interested in hearing yours! So please take a minute and leave your comments below. Thanks!
