After two years of serving as CEO of a online video technology company I founded I’ve once again started working very closely with public speakers to help them earn more passive income from their work. What I’m essentially doing is taking their public speaking skill and building on it with advanced marketing knowledge, training and implementation. Most public speaking skills sites focus on the fundamentals of good speaking.

However, most of my clients know how to speak. In fact their public speaking skill levels are typically very impressive, and my analysis of their work tells me that many of them are a diamond in the rough. A bit of polishing and they can be dazzling. Enough so that a worldwide audience will often be seeking them out.

The area where most need help is clarity of purpose and a definite plan of attack. As I work with potential clients, we often do a one time, complimentary evaluation and planning session, which begins with a multi-part questionnaire which the speaker fills out and returns to me. One recent session reminded me to share two public speaking tips with you today.

My first public speaking tip today

Trying to be an expert in something they’re not perfectly suited for is a dangerous place to be. One of the questions I ask is to “Name 3 things that you know about, are passionate about or can do better
than anyone else you know.” I do this to uncover their passions and gifts. Its surprising how few speakers talk on a topic that they are truly passionate about. When you meet one who is delivering the message they were born to deliver, it shows. They burn brightly with enthusiasm for it.

Another Public Speaking Tip

Next, I find so many great communicators who are not clear on how to tap into the market for their niche.  In my questionnaire the next thing I ask is “What is your “niche” market as a speaker?”, which I placed there almost as a ‘gotcha’ question. You see, when the answers to the questions don’t match, there is a high likelihood that the speaker is struggling to develop enough content to develop a rich passive income.  Once we have them in alignment with their unique God-given message, the rest is easy. I talked about this more in depth in a recent public speaking tip.

Just know this; there will always be an audience for YOUR message. More importantly, they are looking for you right now – they just don’t know your name or where to find you. My goal, when working with you is to make you an “Unforgettable Speaker”. If you want to discuss ways to do this, let me know.
